by Molly Holm Richmond -- From every corner of the country the women came. They hung up their house dresses and buttoned their coveralls. Welding masks covered their faces. For the first time women of all races were emerging in the American mainstream as a vital workforce. But it wasn't easy, especially for an African-American woman making her way. The whole story began right here in Richmond , California at the Henry Kaiser Shipyards. Shotgun Players are proud to present an entirely new take on the epic story of the WWII Victory warships and the women who put everything on the line to build them. Shotgun Players will present FREE performances of This World in a Woman's Hands at the Nevin Community Center, 598 Nevin Ave, September 5, 6 & 7 at 3 pm. Monthly Meet with the Mayor session, Friday, September 4 Please be sure to drop by my monthly Meet with the Mayor session this coming Friday, September 4th, from 5:30 to 6:30m in the Whittlesey Community Room next to the main Richmond public library (325 Civic Center Plaza). September 26 - North Richmond
Shoreline Festival As evidenced by these many activities, we are busy in Richmond energizing and unifying as a community. These are difficult times we live in, but in Richmond we know that challenges can and must be transformed into opportunities.
