Posted on October 13, 2007 Office of Neighborhood Safety Opens in Richmond RICHMOND, Calif. (KCBS) -- The newest effort by the city of Richmond to calm what some residents call “out of control” violence, is the Office of Neighborhood Safety. One of the office’s goals will be to smooth parolees re-entries into Richmond. ”Plug them into the services that they need for substance abuse, conflict resolution, or job training,” said Richmond Mayor Gayle McLaughlin. The seven person staff plans to reach out to violent members of the community, and show them a better way. ”We want to create peace-keeping teams within the very high-need communities where this stuff is taking place. The teams will be able to do a couple of things,” said DeVone Boggan, the program’s director. “They can provide targeted intervention, direct crisis intervention, put some resources in their hands.” The center formally opens it’s doors on the 23rd of this month.
