Contract amendment with the West Contra Costa Unified School District to accept additional funding in the amount of $14,803.84, for the Kid’s First After-School Program at the Lavonya DeJean Middle School, extending the program to June 30, 2008. The total amount of the contract will not exceed $190,803.84. Motion passed

Authorization to renew a Vehicle Lease Agreement and a sole-source vendor request for one year with Auto World—Saadeh Corporation. Motion passed

Agreement to award a contract to NRC Environmental. Motion passed

Resolution regarding donation of Vacation Compensation by City Employees to the American Red Cross for the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. Motion passed

Resolution in support of extending the operating life the West Contra Costa Sanitary Landfill. Motion passed

Discussion regarding five diseased trees on Fiesta Court. Directed staff to proceed with the necessary legal action to abate the trees. Motion passed

Recommendation to appoint Clinton Boswell to Workforce Investment Board. Motion passed


Voted against:
Public hearing on an appeal by Gerald Rasmussen representing the North and East Neighborhood Council Design review Committee, from the Design review Board’s approval to construct a duplex in the 2300 block of Garvin Avenue. Following discussion, a motion was made to deny the appeal by adopting. Motion passed


Introduced:

Resolution requesting the Governor and Legislature of the State of California revisit the “Three Strikes” law. Councilmember McLaughlin gave an overview of the matter. (Gayle introduced and successfully passed this resolution calling on the Governor and the legislature of California to review the three-strikes law and correct the inherent injustices particularly felt by Latinos and African-Americans, emphasizing that “sentences must fit the crime.”) Motion passed
